WHAT IF I WEREN'T A MATHEMATICIAN?

The question has never really arisen, as I have known since I was about 12 that mathematics is the only profession I can follow.

I used to play the violin to a reasonably high amateur performance standard, but was never good enough to take it up professionally. I once aspired to be an operatic tenor, but my voice had other ideas when I was in my early teens.

I like fine food and wine, and would not be unhappy if I were a restaurant inspector for the Michelin Guide in France. However, I would eat and drink myself to an early grave.

I am not a sportsman. Professional sport contradicts good food and wine.

I used to look the other way when somebody gave me an injection, so I am no use as a doctor.

I would not like to be in business, for I would then have many dishonest colleagues.

I would not like to be in politics, for then every single one of my colleagues would be dishonest.

So I have not the foggiest idea what I would have become!
